We are excited that God has lead us to Port Shepstone, South Africa to work at Rehoboth Children’s Village. We will be joining a terrific team of people dedicated to caring for abandoned and orphaned children who have been affected and infected by HIV/AIDS. The ministry focuses on providing comprehensive treatment in all facets of the children’s lives: spiritual, medical, physical, emotional, and intellectual.
In addition to helping the Rehoboth staff in these areas, we will be working to develop their latest self-sustainability project. After a spring of water opened up on their property, Rehoboth has worked to have the water tested and certified. We will be charged with managing the new water-bottling plant, as well as selling the water locally in order to support the ministry. We can’t wait to see how God chooses to use us during this exciting opportunity!
The HIV/AIDS virus affects 18% of the South Africa population. HIV/AIDS is more prevalent in South Africa than any other country in the world. In some regions of South Africa, 40% of the population has HIV/AIDS.
An estimated 17.8 million children in Africa are orphaned by HIV/AIDS, 85% of which live in sub-Saharan Africa (roughly 15.1 million children). Out of all orphaned children in South Africa, 63% are orphaned due to HIV/AIDS. There is an immediate need to help these children as the number of those orphaned by HIV/AIDS continues to increase.
